The Chrome browser provides a platform to create extensions to extend the functionality of the browser. Most of these extensions are free and do some useful work as well. However, some of these extensions are created for malicious purposes and can come with a serious cost for unsuspecting users.

Some malicious actors, under the guise of providing various useful tools, have created various extensions that do some useful tasks. For example, these extensions offer web searches, PDF viewers, Doc to PDF conversion, and other file format converters. However, in the background, these extensions do malicious things such as reading your clipboard, browsing history, or log keystrokes to steal passwords.

An internet security firm, Awake Security, has recently published a list of such extensions.

Check if you are using any of these extensions and if yes remove them immediately from your browser and possibly change passwords of your critical email or other web service accounts.
